3. In Table 6.1 (page 136) the net primary production of tropical forests lies between that of temperate forests and swamps and marshes. Yet, on the previous page the textbook states that the humid tropics have "the highest terrestrial productivity on earth." Explain this apparent contradiction.

4. Most ecologists take 10% as an average ecological efficiency. What does this 10% represent? What happens to the other 90%?
