Funding Assistive Technology
through the Veteran’s Health Administration (VHA)
The Veteran’s Health Administration (VHA) is a federal agency that provides medical assistance to former servicemen and women. The VHA provides services to qualified veterans who are filing a disability claim for service-connected benefits.
Eligibility
Honorably or Generally discharged veterans of the uniformed services as documented by appropriate service history documentation. For example, an original DOD Form 214 usually is all that is required for former service members to be determined eligible.
Coverage
The VHA will pay for a variety of assistive technology including driving and transportation aids, assessment services, advocacy, dental work, detoxification, educational counseling, information and referral services, outpatient psychiatric service, psychiatric counseling, medical equipment, wheelchairs, hearing aids, prosthetic devices, speech devices, and hand controls.
