View P.A.W.S. Sculpture Proposals
Monday, May 12, 2008 - 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm The Coconino Center for the Arts at 2300 N. Fort Valley Rd. Flagstaff, AZ
You are invited to give your input on the selection of a mountain lion sculpture which will be replicated 40 times, decorated, and installed around Flagstaff. Three local sculptors have submitted their sculpture entries which will be on display. One will be chosen and its sculptor commissioned to create a life-sized sculpture for casting.
Flagstaff P.A.W.S. (Promoting Assets with Sculpture) is a project of the Assets Committee of the Coconino Coalition for Children & Youth. The 40 mountain lion sculptures will be decorated by artists working with young people to visually depict the 40 Developmental Assets. Developmental Assets are opportunities, skills, relationships, and values that all young people need to succeed. (See www.search-institute.org for more information.) Each sculpture will illustrate one Asset. This public art and public education effort will highlight the work of a local sculptor and local artists. Artists will be paid honoraria to work with children and/or teens to paint and decorate the sculptures. We invite all interested artists and community members to attend!
Funding provided for Flagstaff PAWS by the Beautification and Public Art Commission of the City of Flagstaff, Flagstaff Community Foundation, and Target. Additional community sponsors are also being sought.
