Kinsey Elementary School

NAU PA Coaches with their team of studentsKinsey Elementary School’s 21st Century Grant program hosts the after school Public Achievement program. Presently there are eight active first through fifth grade teams with two to three NAU freshman coaches leading discussions on community change, democratic leadership, and engaged citizenship with their students. Each team has identified issues they feel are challenges to their school, communities, and environment. Some of the issues identified include fire safety in their homes, transportation to and from school by car, foot, and bike safety, outdoor equipment needs, and pollution around the school grounds.Learning is fun! Creating change is awesome! NAU Freshman take a break from planning their afternoon lessons for their PA team at Kinsey Elementary

Accomplishments: Kinsey is celebrating its second full year of PA and looks forward to growing deeper in the movement. Each team has found many ways to celebrate their successes during their participation. One major project seen through fruition was the issue of playground equipment needs. The students worked very hard to collaborate and partner with the community and succeeded after a year and a half in getting a new playground for the campus!
