Public Achievement at Kinlani is a new program. It’s unique because it combines Public Achievement with Climate Change Solutions. The audience is Flagstaff high school students who live at Kinlani Dormitory. The incredible students we work with are all Native American and come from around Arizona to attend High School in Flagstaff. Many of them are from the Navajo and Hopi reservations.
Public Achievement and Climate Change Solutions occurs during an after school program called twenty first century. It is run by Theresa Boone-Schuler.
The cultural aspect of Kinlani is core to the work that we do. The project is based on the stories of the students, their background and culture.
This year has been a great learning experience. We have been successful in that on a regular basis 15-20 students regularly attend PA. For a program that is not mandatory, this is quite an accomplishment.
The project that Kinlani students have chosen this year is to start a garden and compost at Kinlnai Dormitory. Across the board, the students and coaches are excited to begin this project and hopefully continue next fall!
