Cathy Small is Professor of Anthropology and has been teaching at NAU for almost 25 years. An ongoing interest in pedagogy and student learning is one of the reasons she went back to school as a freshman, living in the dorms for a year and taking freshman classes to better understand the student experience. Since that time, she has been experimenting with different pedagogical strategies for engagement, and she recently taught cultural anthropology's large lecture introductory course (Exploring Cultures ANT 102) in a blended learning format--the topic of her contribution to the panel.
