Rubrics should include:
- clear and well-thought out criteria that distinguish good work from poor work;
- levels of achievement (e.g., good vs. excellent, 3 vs. 4);
- descriptions of criteria at each level of achievement;
- consequences of performing at a specific level (e.g., typos and grammar errors are distracting to the reader);
- input from students when possible and realistic.
