Creating Learning Modules in Blackboard Learn
In this scenario, you will
- Log in to Blackboard Learn
- Navigate to the correct course
- Configure Blackboard Learn for editing
- Create a Learning Module
- Configure Learning Module Settings
- Add Content Items
Although Blackboard Learn offers a number of options to choose from when you structure course content, the steps listed in this scenario address how to organize your content by creating a learning module. You are encouraged to explore the other options on your own.
Log in to Blackboard Learn
To log in to Blackboard Learn (if you are not already logged in), follow these steps:
- Go to bblearn.nau.edu.
- Click the Log in to Bb Learn button.
- On the Central Authentication Service (CAS) page, in the UserID field type your NAU login ID, and in the Password field, type your password.
(NOTE: If you have already authenticated through CAS from some other campus website, you might not have to complete this step or the next. Instead, you automatically will be routed to the Blackboard Learn My Institution tab.)

- Click the Login button.
Navigate to the Correct Course
After you have logged in, make sure you are on the My Institution tab, and then from the My Courses block, select a listed course.

Configure Blackboard Learn for Editing
Near the upper right corner of the window, make sure the Edit Mode is button is set to ON. You click the button to toggle between ON and OFF.

Create a Learning Module
- In the left navigation menu, click the Content link.

- From the Build Content menu, select Learning Module.
- On the Name field, type Lesson 1. That will be the title of your learning module.
- In the Description field, type an overview of the learning module for your students or just add a banner image. You can use the visual editor to format your message.


Configure the Learning Module Settings
- Scroll to 2. Availability, and then specify if you want to permit students to view the learning module.

- Specify the date and time when you want the learning module displayed to the students. To set the day, month, year, and time of day, you can either type the date in MM/DD/YYYY format in the left field and type the time in 00:00 AM format in the right field, or you can use the calendar and time icons as follows:
- Click the calendar icon.

- From the popup calendar, navigate to the date you want and click to select it.

The selected date will be added to the Display After date field.

- Click the clock icon.

- From the time-of-day popup menu, scroll to find the time you want, and click to select it.

The selected time will be added to the Due Date field.

- Repeat Steps A through D, to specify the date and time when you want the lesson plan to stop displaying.
- Scroll to the 3. View, and then specify if you want to force students to progress through the content in the order that is set by the number next to each Content Item. Students are unable to advance to a page within the Learnring Unit without viewing the previous page.

- Next, select if you want the learning modules items to open in a new window.
- In addition, select if you want to track the number of times each student views of the learning module.
- Scroll to the 4. Table of Contents, and then specify if you want to show the learning module Table of Contents to the students.

- Next, select how you want your hierarchy displayed.
- After you have chosen the settings you want, scroll to 5. Submit , click the Submit button.
- Once you submit the learning module, the link to the learning module will be listed on the Content page.

Add Content Items
- The next step to creating a learning module is to add curriculum resources such as class notes, multimedia, and assessments.
- Make sure the Edit Mode is button is set to ON. You click the button to toggle between ON and OFF.

- To open the learning module, click the title link.
- To add content items, and add content from the Build Content, Create Assessment, Add Interactive Tool, or Assign Textbox buttons.

Once you add your learning module content items, the content links appear below the Lesson tab.
- When edit mode is off, a student accesses the learning module from the Content page.

- Students view all the items from the learning module and they can navigate through the table of contents.
