Example 2: Student-led Online Discussion Participation Rubric

To be successful in this field, I believe you need a support system inside and outside your workplace. This course can be a step in developing that support network and can help long after this course is over. By extension, it is also my belief that learning takes place best when students work together and do not rely completely on the instructor for answers and direction. I have organized this course with this philosophy in mind. With that said I also believe that I have a responsibility to be available, so I will check the course daily during the week and occasionally during the weekend.

Discussion Area Expectations

Everyone has something to add and I hope you will try to help each other. Consequently, I will not directly answer questions in the discussion area unless they are addressed to me, or I think students are proceeding in the wrong direction. These topics are for you to help each other by sharing ideas, resources and experiences, not a place for you to give each other the correct answers.

I expect that you will enter the course at least twice a week, at least once during the week and once during the weekend if that is when you have the time to do your class work. You can expect me to access the course daily Monday – Friday and occasionally on weekends but you should not count on it. If you plan to do most of your work on the weekends then I may not be able to answer your questions until Monday. If you wait until the last minute to do your assignments, you may be on your own.
