Listed below are the Educational Technology courses offered in the online M. Ed. degree program. These courses are based on the standards of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), which help prepare educational technology leaders in PK-12 schools. Please review the M. Ed. Program of Study (under Programs on the left menu) for a complete list of courses required for the M. Ed. in Educational Technology.


NOTE: Every effort will be made to offer the course in the semester indicated. However, the courses are NOT guaranteed to be offered since this course rotation is currently being tested.

ETC 320 Introduction to Education Technologies (1). Provides pre-service teachers with technology tools and skills to help them be successful during their academic experience at the College of Education. This course is not part of the graduate Ed Tech programs.

ETC 447 Technology in the Classroom (3). Overview of technology used in schools, including computers, multimedia, telecommunications, distance learning, software preview, integration, issues, and trends. This course is not part of the graduate Ed Tech programs.

ETC 450 Integration of Technology in Education (2). Provides pre-service teachers with technology strategies to successfully and seamlessly integrate technology into teaching. Prerequisite: ETC 320 and Corequisite: ECI 321. This course is not part of the graduate Ed Tech programs.

ETC 545 Internet for Educators (3). Provides an in-depth understanding of how the Internet can be used to promote student engagement through interaction, discovery learning, and knowledge construction. This course is not part of the program of studies.
Prerequisite: none.

ETC 547 Instructional Theory and Strategies in Technology Integration (3). Provides tools to examine and reflect on alternative ways to plan, organize, and implement classroom instruction integrating technology into the K-12 curriculum based on curriculum and learning theory research.
Prerequisites: Being admitted into the Ed Tech program.

ETC 548 Assistive Technologies (3). Includes history; adaptive devices; prostheses; assessment packages; evaluation, selection, and modification of devices and software; hardware; and research with exceptional learners.
Prerequisite: none.

ETC 557 Technology Integration in the Elementary Classroom (3). Examines roles and impacts of technology on elementary education curriculum and practices that facilitate creation of a computer-using curriculum based on models, theories, national standards, and relevant research. Field Component.
Prerequisite: ETC 567

ETC 558 Technology Integration in the Secondary Classroom (3). Assists secondary-level educators to develop understanding, appreciation, and a vision of technology's roles and impacts on the secondary education curriculum. Based on models, theories, national standards, and relevant research. Field Component.
Prerequisite: ETC 567.

ETC 559 Technology in the ESL Classroom (3). This course brings together theory, content, and technology to teach English Language Learners (ELLs). The course provides students with technology tools to support language learning. It is recommended that enrolled students have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel). Field Component.

ETC 567 Technology, Society, and Education (3). Identifies and examines educational and cultural issues associated with technology and historical, political, social, and cultural critiques of technology within the context of teaching and learning.
Prerequisites: Being admitted into the Ed Tech program.

ETC 599 Contemporary Developments (3). Topics vary.
Prerequisite: none
Semesters Offered: Rarely

ETC 599 Educational Uses of Handhelds (3). Provides an in-depth study of the uses of handheld tools in education. Theory and current research of these new technologies will be explored. An overview to the basic operating systems, both the Palm OS and the Pocket PC and their applications will be provided. A handheld is required for the course. The main focus will remain on the practical uses in the classroom setting. Field component.

ETC 599 Information Technology in the Library (3). Welcome to Technology in the Library. This is a new course in the MEd in Educational Technology program. It has been developed with the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment (AEPA) Subject Knowledge Test Objectives for Library/Educational Media as its basis, and with assistance of wonderful media specialists around the state of Arizona. It includes the four sub-areas of the Subject Knowledge Test, and course activities include student demonstration of objectives in each sub-area, in order to prepare you to successfully complete the AEPA Subject Knowledge Test, to take on the role of Media Specialist, and to understand the role of technology in today's libraries and media centers. Field component.

ETC 647 Creating Technology Learning Environments (3). Highly technical course uses principles of designing environments for technology-based teaching and learning with hands-on field experiences for planning, purchasing, installing, maintaining, and assessing hardware, software, and network configurations.
Prerequisite: ETC 567.

ETC 657 Technology Planning and Professional Development (3). Prepares technology leaders for planning, writing, assessing, and maintaining district and school-based technology plans. Also involves instructional program and staff development, facilities and resource management, managing change processes, and grant writing. Field component.

ETC 567.

ETC 666 Designing Instruction (3). This course is considered to be the prerequisite to ETC 667. It focuses on instructional design models and strategies and the application of these principles to educational learning environments with special emphasis on the design of web-based instruction.

Semesters Offered: Fall and Spring

ETC 667 Instructional Design and Multimedia Authoring (3). Emphasizes learning theories in terms of multimedia development and issues of design, testing, and authoring tools to create quality K-12 learning environments. This course is not part of the program of studies starting on the fall 2007 semester.
Prerequisite:
ETC 567.

ETC 666.

ETC 677 Distributed Learning Delivery Systems (3). Provides technology leaders with background and practice in research, assessment, and use of distributed learning delivery systems, including telecommunications, development of instructional web sites, interactive instructional television, video conferencing, and combinations of systems.
Prerequisite: ETC 567.

Semesters Offered: Fall and Summer

ETC 695 Educational Technology Capstone (3). Provides an environment for students to fully plan, design, produce, implement, evaluate, and report on an instructional product that summarizes theory and practice within the educational technology field. This is a two-semester long course. Pass-fail only. Prerequisite: ETC 567; it may be taken concurrently with only ONE other course during the first part of the course (first semester) but it MUST be taken alone during the second part of the course (second semester); To be taken one semester before the planned semester of graduation.

ETC 697 Independent Study (1-3). Letter grade or pass-fail.
Prerequisite: Instructor and Department consent required.
