Have students collaboratively establish expectations, standards, and boundaries for the course.
Rather than stating the minimum level of acceptable participation from students, describe and model ideal participation.
Provide flexibility or choice in evaluation methods.
Consider take-home, online, or group assessments.
Consider untimed assessments.
Consider evaluating process in addition to product (e.g., portfolios).
Consider project, performance and product assessments, in addition to written assessments.
Offer a presentation by one of NAU’s learning specialists (nau.edu/slc) focusing on study skills, test taking and/or time management.
