The Graduate College and the Faculty Development Program are once again sponsoring two awards to honor exceptional achievement by graduate teaching assistants. The call for nominations will be available beginning February 2 on the Graduate College website and the Faculty Development Program website. Nominations will be due in mid-February, and nominees will be invited to submit teaching portfolios in March. Watch for full details in an e-mail announcement and on the websites. A Graduate College awards reception in April will honor nominees, award recipients, and graduate students who complete the professional development series program.
Have you fallen victim to the myth of the infallible professor? Don't miss words of wisdom from NAU Distinguished Teaching Fellow Jeff Berglund in "Be a Scholar, Not a Professor."
In our continuing professional development program, the Offices of the Graduate Dean, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies, and Faculty Development Program offer sessions to assist graduate students in thinking about their teaching, their future roles as faculty, and their research/scholarship. Two upcoming programs in the series provide practical, hands-on strategies.
On Friday, February 6, visiting speaker Tara Gray (NMSU) will lead a workshop specifically for graduate students: “Publish and Flourish: Becoming a Prolific Scholar.” The session will be from 2-5 p.m. in the University Union’s Kaibab Room (snacks will be provided).
On Tuesday, February 24, there will be a session on “Developing a Teaching Portfolio” from 2:30 – 4 p.m. in the University Union’s Sycamore Room (snacks will be provided).
