Brian Malnes (MA English, Creative Writing) is the editor of Thin Air. He produces a beautiful professional literary magazine while expanding the literary community. Brian has invited undergraduate students to work on the magazine for the first time in the magazine's history and has cultivated next year's staff by involving them from the beginning of the year. Most importantly, he has started a monthly reading series featuring two graduate students and also allowing writers from across campus, undergraduates included, to read their own writing. This voluntary work takes a considerable amount of time and coordination.
Erin Wahl (MA English, Creative Writing) has initiated community writing workshops. She worked with Flagstaff Public Libraries to provide a venue and inspired her fellow graduate students to participate. The group teaches monthly workshops for all writing levels and promotes the workshops across town.
