Program Admission Requirements
Must be a current or prior student from a regionally accredited community college in one of these areas:
- Diagnostic Medical Imaging and Therapy - DMIT (Nuclear Medicine, Ultra Sound, Radiography or Radiation Therapy programs)
- Surgical Technology
- Respiratory Care
- Physical Therapist Assisting
- Paramedic Care
- Medical Assisting
Students may begin NAU degree completion coursework (in consultation with their NAU advisor) while working toward completion of the discipline-specific curriculum.
Program Requirements
The BS in Health Sciences degree requires 120 units of coursework to include:
- at least 35 units of liberal studies requirements
- major discipline-specific coursework (from AAS program)
- 24 credits of Health Sciences core requirements
- elective courses, as needed, to reach an overall total of 120 units
- Required prerequisite: HS 200 (3 hours)
Health Sciences Core Requirements
- SHP 300W Applied Ethics in Health Care (Junior Writing Requirement)
- HS 301 Special Topics
- HS 333 Principles of Epidemiology
- HS 410 Organization and Administration of Health Services
- HS 408C* Fieldwork Experience (Capstone requirement)
*Students must graduate with an associates degree from a regionally accredited community college and obtain certification/licensure before enrolling in HS 408C.
Select 2 courses from those listed below:
- HS 300 Human Diseases (recommended—prerequisite for most HS courses)
- HS 305W Theories of Health Behavior
- HS 307 Health Promotion: Planning & Evaluation
- HS 471 Health Issues of the Southwest (recommended—meets U.S. Ethnic requirement)
Associate degree discipline-specific coursework: (up to 60 hours)
Liberal Studies
Students must complete 35 hours of NAU liberal studies, as well as meet the NAU U.S. Ethnic & Global Diversity requirements.
Electives
Students may take any remaining courses they need to reach the 120 hours required to graduate. They may choose courses from any academic area that meet their specific interests and goals.
