NAUreads asks all first-year students to read the same book and encourages students to participate in conversations about the book. This provides all our first year students with a common experience as they begin their educational journey. Students can use the book to initiate conversations and build community with their new classmates, roommates, and faculty. The program includes opportunities to participate in:
- Book club discussions with faculty and staff
- Author presentations
- Film series related to the books central themes and issues
- Lectures on topics related to the book
- Class discussion based on the book
2011 Book Selection
NAUreads is excited to announce the 2011 selection, No Impact Man: The Adventures Of A Guilty Liberal Who Attempts to Save the Planet, and the Discoveries He Makes About Himself And Our Way Of Life In The Process, by Colin Beavan.
The 2011 selection is a yearlong account of one family's attempt to live with as little impact on the environment as possible. Through honesty and humor, Colin Beavan takes the reader on a journey about his own struggles to implement change but ultimately how his yearlong experiment positively impacted himself, his family and the environment.
First Year students will be given a complimentary copy of the book at Orientation. Parents and the NAU community may purchase a copy at the NAU Bookstore.
