Keyboard virtuoso Hurlebusch spent much of his life touring Europe giving organ and harpsichord recitals. In 1723 he settled down, for two years, as Kapellmeister in Stockholm. Around 1735 it is possible that Hurlebusch visited Bach in Leipzig whereafter Bach is reported to have actively promoted the virtuoso's harpsichord works. In 1743 Hurlebusch took a position as organist at the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. Hurlebusch composed operas and cantatas, numerous pieces for organ and harpsichord, and some instrumental works.
