Pietro Antonio Locatelli 1695-1764

A child prodigy on the violin, Locatelli was sent to Rome to study under Corelli. Little is known of his subsequent activities except that he finally settled in Amsterdam where he died. Locatelli composed concerti grossi, concertos and caprices for the violin, trio sonatas, violin and flute sonatas, and other instrumental music. Bach copied a set of parts to Locatelli's Concerto Grosso opus. 1 (1721) which he presumably performed with the Leipzig Collegium Musicum.
