Assignment 8: Cadences

The following questions pertain to Schumann's Widmung (Dedication) which can be found in the Stein "Anthology of Musical Forms" on p. 9. Before answering these questions you should review your notes and Chapter Two in Stein's text (pp. 10-21). You may want to have the textbook handy as you answer these questions. Before beginning, make sure the page has completely loaded. If not, hit the reload button or ask for assistance.

Please note that incorrectly formatted answers will be counted as wrong. Here are the formats you should use.

  • When asked to identify the cadence KEY, you must enter the key followed by a hyphen followed by the word "flat" or "sharp" (if necessary) followed by major or minor: e.g. "a-minor, B-flat-Major"
  • When asked to identify the chord GROUP you must enter two Roman numerals (without inversion symbols or 7ths) separated by a hyphen: e.g. V-i, viio/V-V
  • When asked to identify the cadence TYPE you must enter IAC, PAC, HC, PC, or DC (without the commas) preceded, if appropriate, by one of the following descriptors as per Stein pp. 10-21: shifted, delayed, elided, extended, implied, evaded. The following would be examples of cadence TYPES: delayed HC, shifted PAC, evaded PC.
