Arizona Universities Network SOLISTC Teacher Certification Program for Science and Mathematics

Program Overview
The Arizona Universities Network (AZUN) SOLISTC Teacher Certification Program for Science and Mathematics is available for those who already hold a degree in a mathematics, science, forestry, engineering or technology field and wish to earn secondary (Grades 7-12) teaching certification. The program consists of 31 credits and is offered jointly through Northern Arizona University and the University of Arizona. Coursework is available on-line, with the exception of field-based practicum courses held in grades -12 classrooms and 3 in-person seminars held on weekends over the course of the program. Students who successfully complete the program will receive an Institutional Recommendation for teaching certification in Arizona. Program participants will need to meet additional requirements for teacher certification from the Arizona Department of Education.

Program of Study
The program of study consists of 31 credit hours of coursework. Refer to the description of required courses for specifics about each course.

  • 6 credits content-specialized teaching methods
  • 3 credits curriculum
  • 3 credits evaluation
  • 3 credits technology
  • 3 credits educational psychology
  • 3 credits structured English immersionArizona Board of Regents
  • 10 credits field placement practicum and supervised student teaching

Home Institution
Each student chooses a "home institution", which is the institution from which they will initiate admission, register and pay tuition, and complete student teaching and field practicum courses. Your home institution will also track your academic progress, provide student services and confer the Institutional Recommendation for teaching certification to the state once all course requirements have been fulfilled. Students may choose Northern Arizona University or the University of Arizona as their home institutions.
