What skills do I need to create an online course?
Open-mindedness. Clarity. Patience. Teamwork. Strong writing ability. Technical aptitude. Willingness to learn. Ability to imagine a student's viewpoint. Ability to meet deadlines.
While you don't need to be a computer guru, you do need to be completely comfortable using web browsers and email. You need to know how to send and receive email attachments. It helps if you have good keyboarding skills or an equivalent method of interacting with your computer.
You also need to be willing to learn and practice new technical skills and new approaches to pedagogy and you'll need to learn how to use NAU's course management system.
When you are teaching your course, you need to be very available to your students, checking your course email and discussions at least once or twice a day.
