Why do some students have points instead of an F grade when using the Letter Grade option?

If you are using the Letter Grade version of a Total column in your Bb Learn class, you may need to update the Letter Schema. Originally, the default letter schema was incorrect and was set that an F grade was based on 50% to 60% of the total possible points. If a student earns less than 50% they will not have a letter grade display, but only their total points (score).

We've changed the default schema for any new courses that are created, but older classes or copied classes will still have this incorrect version. To fix this, go to the Grade Center and do the following:

  1. Select Manage button.
  2. Select Grading Schemas.
  3. Select the drop-down action link for the Letter schema.
  4. The last option in the left column needs to be changed to zero percent instead of 50%. This corrects the issue so that an F grade is set to 0% to 60% (you may use a different grade schema, so please adjust to fit your grading needs).
  5. Click Submit.
