First Year Experience

Welcome

The undergraduate programs at Northern Arizona University are designed to help all students acquire the knowledge and skills essential for their future, regardless of their major, career path, or individual goals. We know that all students need, as an educational foundation, fundamental skills such as critical thinking, effective writing, effective oral communication, scientific reasoning, and quantitative reasoning.

Northern Arizona University students begin acquiring these skills during their general education courses, either through Liberal Studies or the Honors Program. Building on these essential skills, students achieve a breadth of knowledge, develop expertise in their major, and prepare for key roles in our global society.

Our aim is to ensure that students succeed, and my office is dedicated to that goal. The courses students take, the advising they receive, and the other programs in which they take part are designed to work together to create a challenging, supportive, learning environment in which all students can flourish.
