1. Fossils have provided the world some of the most spectacular evidence of evolution. What is the etymology of the word, "fossil?" (You'll need to consult a big dictionary.) What source(s) did you use?

2. What kind of evidence does the term, "fossil," include? What source(s) did you use?

3. Pick a particular fossil of an organism (e.g., microfossils, plants, dinosaurs, hominids), and list it in the assignment database. Pick a fossil which is not already listed in the assignment database.

4. Describe the fossil you picked. On what location on earth was the fossil discovered, or in what region of the world was it thought to have lived? How much of the original organism is represented by the fossil? To what group of organisms did it belong? During what time period (how many years ago) did it live? What source(s) did you use?

5. What was the environment like at the time the fossil organism was alive? What source(s) did you use?

6. What role did the fossil organism play in its environment when it was alive? What source(s) did you use?
