At the request of PACAC, the e-Learning Center invited faculty to compare Blackboard Learn and Moodle, the two learning management systems (LMS) being considered as a replacement for Blackboard Vista, NAU's current LMS.
For two weeks in September, faculty had the opportunity to do a hands-on comparison of the following common teaching tasks in both Blackboard Learn and Moodle:
Before beginning, participants completed a demographic survey. After completing each task, participants answered a short survey about that task, and then at the end they completed a survey about their overall impressions of Blackboard Learn and Moodle. The results of the demographic and overall impressions surveys are summarized here. For complete survey results, see the following pages:
All NAU faculty were invited to participate in this project along with NAU staff who use the current LMS.
48 people signed up for the project.
31 people started the project. That is, they completed the demographic survey.
Varying numbers of people completed some of the tasks.
17 people completed the project. That is, they completed the final survey about overall impressions of Blackboard Learn and Moodle. The summary charts and tables shown here are based on these 17 surveys.
