Suzuki String Philosophy

The Suzuki String Program is based upon the belief that every student is capable of learning to play an instrument. Students are taught to play in the Suzuki Philosophy that encourages parental support, teacher guidance, observation, group instruction, private insturction, and performance opportunities. Through the University's Teacher Training Program, students are provided with these opportunities. Parental participation is strongly recommended to assist and support students in the learning process. Program objectives include:

  • To provide the skills necessary to play the instrument of their choice.
  • To teach instrumental positioning that is consistent with comfort and avoids injury
  • To provide skill needed for the development of sensitivity to good tone and intonation
  • To provide the building blocks necessary for students to play at his/her desired level of musicianship.
