We are Earth system scientists and ecosystem ecologists. We are interested in the response of terrestrial ecosystems to environmental change, and their role in the Earth’s climate system.

Our research focuses on C cycling in plants and soils, with expertise in the application of isotopes (mainly 14C) as tracers of processes.  Our overarching research question is: what is the fate of C in terrestrial ecosystems?

We are part of the The Center for Ecosystem Science and Society (Ecoss) and the Department of Biological Sciences at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. We work closely with, and maintain a joint lab space with Professor Andrew Richardson’s lab group in Ecoss.
