Weapons of the 42nd

The soldiers and officers carried various types of weaponry based on the time period and where they were stationed. The following is a standard setup.

Musket

The standard musket for the time period was the Long Land Pattern, also known as the Brown Bess. A bayonet would also be included with the musket.

Short Land Pattern

The musket displayed here is a Short Land Pattern by Pedersoli. Either a Long or Short Land Pattern is considered sufficient. The musket and bayonet was supplied by the regiment.

Highland Backsword

Broadsword

A Highland Backsword or Broadsword of any manufacture is considered sufficient for our reenactment. The sword was traditionally supplied by the regiment.

Highland Dirk

The dirk was a personal item supplied by the individual.

Dirk

The dirk displayed here is on a belt made by the author and the dirk was made by Michael "Tinker" Pearce and includes a small table knife and two-tined fork. A bayonet and cartridge box would also be hung on the belt.

Highland Pistol

The Highland Pistol was supplied by the regiment. For the 42nd, 42 was inscribed on the thumbpiece of the pistol. The Scots preferred an all metal pistol which were worn on a thin strap under the left arm.
