Personal and Professional Background

I am a native of Detroit, Michigan, but moved with my family to the San Diego area in the early 1950's. Initially we lived near Mission Bay, then replete with great mud flats and good fishing holes. We subsequently moved to La Jolla, where I surfed, fished and skin- and SCUBA-dived my way through high school.

My subsequent history is outlined in the Curriculum Vitae below. It contains a summary of my educational background, academic employment, military service and research interests.
