Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Substance Abuse Education and Prevention
Admission Procedure |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Eligibility
Applicants must hold an earned baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university with a minimum grade point average as required by the Graduate College (2.5) or equivalent qualifying experience. The minimum admissions requirement for entry into the program for the Graduate Interdisciplinary Certificate in Substance Abuse Education and Intervention is a 2.5 undergraduate grade point average or current status as a graduate student in a NAU graduate program or admitted to the graduate college. If an applicant's undergraduate degree was obtained more than 20 years prior to application, or if college grade point average is below 2.5, relevant work or volunteer experience in a health- or mental health-related field will be considered as criteria for program admission. Application Applicants must submit an Application for Graduate Admission to the Graduate College ("Degree seeking" application), application processing fee ($45.00), and an official copy of their bachelor's degree transcript. These applications must be submitted by at least one month prior to the beginning of the semester in which you wish to begin taking courses. You need to allow enough time for your application to be processed (e.g, at least 4 weeks before the end of the semester). The Graduate College is located at Main/Ashurst Hall, NAU Box 4125, 523-4348. If you are admitted by the Graduate College as "unclassified," you must make up deficiencies and apply for a change to "regular standing" before applying to the Certificate program. Applicants must also submit an Application for the Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Substance Abuse Education and Prevention. Included in the application process are 1) writing a personal statement, 2) securing two letters of recommendation, and 3) sending a copy of your vita or resume. While you can submit the application on line, all of the other documents must be sent to the Psychology Department. Be sure and clearly mark your envelope "Certificate Program." Graduate students who are currently enrolled in a graduate program of study at NAU leading to a degree and who wish to pursue a simultaneous graduate certificate are only required to submit an application for the certificate program along with a letter from their graduate academic advisor that they are a graduate student in good standing and have notified their academic advisor of their plans to apply to the certficiate program in substance abuse education and prevention. One copy of the Progam of Study and one copy of the certificate application form will be forwarded to the Graduate College in Old Main/ashurst. Admission Admission is on a "rolling" basis. As soon as all required documents have been received, you will be advised as to your status in the program. Upon admittance, you will be assigned an advisor and complete a tentative program of studies with your advisor. Please note that acceptance to this certificate program (and completion of certificate) does not supersede the admission requirements to a degree program should you subsequently apply to a graduate degree program. |
