The first described Muscle Articulation: a buccal mass removed from an octopus. The beaks are pointing to the left and the tubular esophagus extends from the posterior (right side). A central pattern generator in the inferior buccal ganglion is thought to allow the beaks to continue biting when the buccal mass is removed from the octopus.
