Introduction Background .Explication Questions Review

Review:

You study-read two books of The Iliad.  You should be familiar with many of the characters & their relationships, including:

You should be familiar with 2 or 3 background myths: If you are unfamiliar with these, look up the character's name in your Penguin Dictionary or another simple reference book -- or on the web.  Type a character's name into Infoseek & surf to some websites.  If you find 1 or 2 really good ones, let me know via e-mail.

You should know family relationships: HK's father is Priam.  His mother is Hekabe.  His wife is Andromakhe.  His brother is Paris (whose name is also Alexandros).  His sister is Kassandra.  His son is Skamander (actually this one is pretty esoteric.  See n.12, p. 158).
AK's father is Peleus.  His mother is Thetis.  His girlfriend is Briseis.  His protégé or foster young brother is Patroklos.

You should be familiar (minimally) with the theme of The Iliad: power.  You should be able to differentiate 4 manifestations of power, personified by: AK, AG, HK, & Helen.

This is the end of unit 1.  Next week you will work through unit 2.  It will have the same structure & you will use the same navigation bar.  See you then.
